The
Moon House, built in 1834, is one of the oldest homes in Sumter County and
is owned and operated by the Sumter County Historical Society. It has been
restored with period décor and antiques, and is a favorite site for
University events. The large patio behind the house is frequently used for
wedding receptions and other university gatherings. The Calloway School
building, moved onto the premises from near Sumterville, is the last
one-room schoolhouse in Sumter County. The Choctaw Tavern building, moved
onto the property from its original site in downtown Livingston, was
constructed in 1833 as a stage coach stop.
